Scanned PDF to Word

Premium OCR

This premium workflow opens PDF to Word with OCR pre-enabled, so you can process scanned pages and image-based PDFs into editable text faster.

Best for

Scanned contracts, photo-based documents, and PDFs where text cannot be selected.

How Scanned PDF to Word Works

  1. 1

Upload your scanned PDF — a contract, an invoice, a book chapter, or a photographed document. Pages where text cannot be selected are exactly what this tool is for.

  2. 2

The OCR engine analyzes every page, recognizes the printed text in 17 supported languages, and reconstructs it as real, editable characters.

  3. 3

Download the resulting Word document and edit it like any other file: fix dates, update names, copy paragraphs, or reuse the content entirely.

Why Convert Scans Online Instead of Retyping?

Retyping a ten-page scanned contract takes hours and introduces typos; OCR does the same job in under a minute. There is nothing to install — the converter runs in the browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile, and handles multi-page documents in one pass. Because recognition happens on our servers, even a low-powered laptop or phone can process large scans.

Scanned PDF to Word FAQ

What is OCR and when do I need it?
OCR (optical character recognition) reads the text printed on scanned pages and photos and turns it into real, editable characters. If you cannot select or copy text in your PDF, the pages are images — and OCR is the only way to convert them into an editable Word document.
Which languages does the OCR recognize?
The OCR engine supports 17 languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, with automatic language detection for mixed-language documents.
How accurate is scanned PDF to Word conversion?
Accuracy depends mostly on the source. Clean scans of printed text at around 300 DPI convert with very high accuracy, while low-resolution photos, skewed pages, and handwriting reduce recognition quality. Re-scanning at a higher resolution is the single best way to improve results.
Is the scanned PDF to Word converter free?
OCR conversion is a premium feature. If your PDF already contains selectable text, you do not need OCR — the regular PDF to Word converter handles text-based files for free.
Will the document formatting be preserved?
Recognized text is exported as an editable Word document organized into paragraphs. Simple letters and contracts come out close to the original; documents with complex tables or multi-column layouts may need light touch-ups afterwards, which is normal for OCR output.
